How do we create a more informed community?
Growing up, I became inspired by national politics, and realized that many of the changes that I wanted needed to be started locally. I knew Millcreek was a new city and even that city hall was in a strip mall, but I didn’t understand what issues were being discussed or how much they could affect me and my neighbors. When I decided to start researching, there was no clear information about what the city was working on, and their website was confusing and frustrating to navigate. Later, I found myself taken aback by changes I saw in my community that didn’t seem helpful—but I still didn’t know how or when to speak up.
I want to make it easier for residents to know what’s happening and have their voices heard before decisions are finalized. This means sharing clear information about proposed ordinances and giving people enough time to respond.
As a Millcreek council member I would encourage:
Sending citywide surveys to gather public feedback.
Publishing ordinance details in the city newsletter or newspaper.
Clearly announcing when and how residents can give public comment.
